YouTube

YouTube has undoubtedly emerged as one of the most versatile global social media platforms. It has the potential to give the audience content which is academic or informative or entertaining. It can effectively disseminate knowledge. It is a social learning platform. It offers you the opportunity to build a strong e-learning community where everyone can comment, contribute and share their opinions and ideas. It generates and promotes online discussions. It facilitates a closer personal connection. It is a creative outlet for those having creativity. You can create effective videos of lectures, demonstrations quickly and easily with minimal video equipment. YouTube is highly optimised for mobile devices. The scope, the potential, the utility of YouTube platform does not end here. It is far beyond this.

YouTube was started as an American online video-sharing platform, founded by three former PayPal employees in 2005. It was bought by Google in 2006 and now YouTube operates as one of the subsidiaries of Google.

Unfortunately there are no guidelines or regulations or protocols or advisories relating to the use of YouTube, on account of which this powerful, versatile, highly potent social media platform is being drastically misused by anti-social elements of the society including mental perverts and criminals. It is high time that clear-cut guidelines and regulations were laid down by Google which ensures the use of YouTube only in a constructive manner. Through the use of appropriate software, posting of only contents which conform to a set of laid down international norms could be ensured. Since YouTube is a global platform, global guidelines and regulations alone would be able to effectively regulate its use. Each country could also frame advisory on the YouTube content originating from that country.

A self-disciplined society is an utopian proposition. YouTube should become regulated.
